Malaysia’s Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS) has laid down the third Maharaja Lela (Gowind)-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) on order for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
Keel for the 111 m vessel was laid down on 18 December at BNS’ facility at Lumut, Perak. The vessel is named KD Raja Mahadi and will bear pennant number 2503.
The warship is part of a MYR9 billion (USD2.2 billion) contract for six vessels awarded to BNS in 2014.
The platform derives its design from the Gowind 2500 corvette produced by French shipbuilder Naval Group, which is also collaborating with BNS on the project.
